Share gain could be capped by intensifying competition in high-end iPhone lens; U/P
Reiterate Rating: UNDERPERFORM | PO: 410.00 TWD | Price: 609.00 TWD
Reiterate Underperform on rising competition in high-end
We reiterate Underperform on Genius, given intensifying competition and thus potential slower share gains. Reported monthly sales during Apr-June reached NT$5.7bn, above our 2Q revenue estimates, supported by periscope share gains since 4Q25. We note that Apple remains a key driver for Genius, and we expect Genius to likely benefit from ASP expansion, owing to iPhone ' s multi-year spec upgrade cycle. However, looking into 202728, we expect competition in the high-end segment to intensify. We believe Largan will remain the leader in iPhone high-end lens, while Sunny Optical is finally making progress in the high-end as the company is expected to enter Apple ' s variable aperture main camera supply chain from 2H26. This could make Genius ' share gain into the high-end more difficult. Other than Apple, we note that the MR business (20% sales) remains challenging, given delays related to the Meta project.
Adjust earnings, PO to NT$410
We lift 2026-28E earnings by 11-14%, mainly reflecting better opex management and lower tax rate seen in the past 2-3 quarters. We raise our PO to NT$410 (12x 2H261H27E P/E) from NT$380 (12x 2026E P/E) after the valuation base rollover to 2H261H27E. We change our income rating to 7 (same/higher) from 8 (same/lower) to reflect higher dividend income in 2026E.

Company Description
Genius Electronic Optical was established in 1990 and listed in Taiwan Stock Exchange in 2005. The company is headquartered in Taichung, Taiwan, and is one of the major smartphone optical lens suppliers in Asia. Elsewhere, it is also involved in designing and manufacturing auto lens and light-emitting diode (LED) lighting products.
Investment Rationale
We have an Underperform rating on Genius, on slower share gain at iPhone high-end lens and likely rising pressure. For VR business, despite a recovery in 2024, we believe demand sustainability remains uncertain.

Genius Electronic Optical (GNSEF)
Our PO NT$410 is based on 12x 2H26-1H27E P/E, below Genius' past 5-year trading average. We believe 12x is justified by rising competition from peers like Largan/Sunny Optical, slower VR/AR sales and macro/tariff uncertainties.
Upside risks to our PO are
- 1) better-than-expected gross margin due to better yield/efficiency, especially for iPhone order
- 2) faster-than-expected ramp up of VR/AR-related products
- 3) stronger-than-expected end market demand for smartphone
- 4) eased competition from peers like Largan and Sunny Optical for iPhone
Downside risks to our PO are
- 1) slower learnings curve at iPhone pericope, hurting margin profile
- 2) slower-than-expected pull-in of VR/AR related products
- 3) slower-than-expected end market demand for smartphone
- 4) more intense competition from other optics players in Asia
